Civil Litigation

Civil litigation includes any type of legal dispute that is not criminal.  Our practice is broad and includes, for example, commercial litigation, personal injury, wrongful death, contract and other business disputes.  We provide counsel and representation at both the trial level and the appellate level to individually-owned, mid-sized, and large businesses in litigation in State and Federal courts involving claims arising out commercial contracts, interference, fraud, real estate transactions, alleged wrongful terminations, alleged retaliatory discharges, and breach of employment contracts, including employment covenants and non-compete agreements.  Our attorneys have represented hundreds of clients in these matters and have a proven track record in negotiation jury and non-jury litigation trials.  

Civil Rights Defense & Governmental law

The firm has an extensive practice in civil rights defense. It has represented law enforcement officers, police and Sheriff’s Departments and municipalities, counties, fire and ambulance districts and other governmental agencies in state and federal courts throughout the State of Missouri. These cases include wrongful death and serious personal injury claims as well as claims involving Constitutional rights such as freedom of speech, equal protection, due process, and discrimination claims based upon race, sex, national origin, age, and disability.

Employment Law

The firm is uniquely situated in its employment law practice in that its attorneys represent both employers and employees in claims and lawsuits based upon sex, race, national origin, religion, age, and disability discrimination before both federal and state agencies and courts. This dual representation provides the firm with unique perspectives from both sides of the issue translating into a well-rounded perspective for the client. It also provides representation to employers and employees in claims of wrongful termination, retaliatory discharge, and breach of employment contracts, including employment covenants and non-compete agreements.

Real Estate & Title Law

The firm represents title insurance underwriters’ policyholders in claims involving real estate throughout the state of Missouri.  Such claims involve resolving adverse claims to policyholders’ title, defending policyholders in litigation filed against them, and curing title defects in policyholders’ titles.  We litigate suits involving mechanic’s liens, lien and mortgage priority, reformation of instruments, adverse possession, easements, quieting title, real estate and mortgage fraud, declaratory judgment, and neighborhood/subdivision restrictions and indentures.

In addition to its extensive title insurance practice, the firm specializes in all aspects of real estate litigation, including claims arising out of acquisition, development, financing and leasing or sale of real estate, both commercial and residential. The firm represents individuals and businesses throughout the state of Missouri.

The firm has defended real estate agents and brokers in ethics proceedings before the Missouri Real Estate Commission as well as various Boards of Realtors in both Missouri and Illinois.

Our firms also represents landlords and tenants throughout the region with respect to the leasing of retail, commercial, office, and industrial space. We also assist landlords and tenants in connection with all matters arising out of the landlord-tenant relationship.
